Web 2.0 Review
I decided to do my review on Diigo which is an online bookmarking site. I tried it out and discovered it really helped a sometimes disorganzied person like me keep one facet of my life organized.
Diigo is an online bookmarking tool with some really cool features. There are a few sites out there that let you save tagged Web sites to a list of favorites by Diigo takes that a few steps further. Diigo lets you actually make sticky notes, highlight text, and save snippets of graphics on the Web Sites that you bookmark. It’s like scribbling on a Webpage and sending all your scribbles to your friends. You can use Diigo’s tools to collect recipes, plan a vacation, write a research paper, and then share you notes with others.
You can sign up for free at diigo.com and then login. Its compatible with Firefox, Internet Explorer and you can import your bookmarks from these browsers if you like or bookmark Web Sites individually at the Diigo site. Once you sign up for an account you can download a small toolbar that you can activate if you want to bookmark a website. You can give the bookmarked site a tag, add a sticky notes to the site, highlight text you want to stand out and even forward the page to other users.
Let’s say you have a research article that you want to share with someone else but you want to point out some of the parts that were important or worthy of a discussion. You just highlight the text and then add a sticky note with comments. If the person you are sending the bookmark to is also a Diigo user, he or she can even add their comments back to you.
If your like me and keep tons of bookmarks, this site makes it easy to tag them so when your looking for one all you have to do is a quick search. It’s a great way to organize all the different websites that we save.
Diigo is still in the beta stages, but it promises to be a great bookmarking site for taking notes on WebPages and using them to collaborate with other users. Definitely worth checking out.
